The Embassy of India celebrated ITEC Day on 28 March 2017 to commemorate Indian Technical & Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme and to share the experience and build network of ITEC alumni. A reception was hosted at Hotel InterContinental which was attended by more than 200 guests including ITEC alumni, members of Cambodia India Alumni Association (CIAA), members of Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Indian Association of Cambodia (IAC) and government officials.
The event was presided over by H.E. Dr. Sao Chivoan, President of Cambodia India Alumni Association & Secretary of State in Ministry of Rural Development, Kingdom of Cambodia and Ambassador H.E. Naveen Srivastava. The function commenced with a welcome speech by Ambassador Naveen Srivastava. Dr. Sao Chivoan, President of CIAA and the senior most alumni also addressed the gathering and urged more Cambodians to avail the ITEC progammes. H.E Mrs. EAT Sophea, former Ambassador to Thailand was among the prominent guests. Cultural programmes were also organized which included dance and music performances by several Cambodian Groups, Indian Embassy and Indian Diaspora in Cambodia. This was followed by a lucky draw with scores of participants winning attractive prizes.
Training or capacity building is one of the major activities under ITEC programme. The professionals and people from developing countries are offered unique training courses, both civilian and defence, in different centres of excellence in India which empower them with not just professional skills, but prepare them for an increasingly globalized world. More than 1400 Cambodian nationals have received training under ITEC programme and are contributing to the development of Cambodia. The programme has received overwhelming response in recent years and number of training slots have been increased to 150 last year.
