Successful Celebrations of 3rd International Day of Yoga June 2017

Like previous two years, Embassy of India in partnership with Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports organized yoga events in Cambodia in three cities namely Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanouk Ville.

Yoga event in front of Angkor Wat Temple (14 June)

Cambodia marked celebration of 3rd International Day of Yoga 2017 in front of iconic Angkor Wat Temple on 14 June morning. The event was attended by around 1000 yoga lovers which included delegates of Asia Cooperation Dialogue, young students, national and international tourists and senior government officials. Mr. Rajiv Kumar, Charge d’ Affaires of Embassy of India presided over the event.

H.E Dr.Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and enjoyed the yoga session which lasted for 45 minutes. On the occasion, Mr. Rajiv Kumar conveyed the message of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the yoga participants and said that through regular yoga practice people can live a holistic life that is free of stress and disease. He said that participation of delegates of ACD made the event special.

On his part H.E. Dr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism remarked that Yoga is a very useful practice for our daily life which helps our mind and body and improves our health and happiness by reducing stress. It has been recognized by the UN and therefore it is being celebrated around the world. "Hence, I would like to encourage Cambodian people to practice yoga every day", he added.

In the blissful and serene atmosphere at the iconic Angkor Wat, the participants really enjoyed the yoga session conducted by the group of experienced yoga instructors from India and the Art of Living in Cambodia.

Main Yoga Event at National Olympic Stadium Phnom Penh (17 June)

As part of celebrations of 3rd international Day of Yoga, the main yoga event was conducted at National Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh on 17 June morning. The participation of H.E Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education Youth and Sport as the Chief Guest added great value to the yoga event. There was an overwhelming participation of more than 1000 people including local residents, young students, UYFC youth wing, prominent members of Indian Diaspora, senior government officials and international tourists.

On the occasion Minister H.E Naron encouraged all participants to practice yoga in order to release stress and live a healthy, happy and holistic life. A 45-minute long yoga session was conducted by the team of Art of Living in Cambodia and participants really enjoyed it.

Yoga at Sokha Beach Sihanouk Ville (17 June)

A third yoga event as part of celebrations of 3rd International Day of Yoga was organized at Sokha Beach Sihanouk Ville on 17 June morning. H.E. Ms. Heak Himolly, Deputy Governor of Sihanouk Ville Province participated in the event with more than 500 young students and officials who all enjoyed yoga session in a cool pleasant morning breeze.
